Join Somerset County Soil & Water Conservation District for an informative Invasive Plant Species Workshop at the Yankee Woodlot on Saturday, May 17th, from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM.
This workshop is designed for landowners, foresters, and anyone interested in identifying and managing invasive plant species in Maine. Learn from industry experts:
Joseph Dembeck – Invasive Plant Species Expert
Joe has extensive experience with invasive terrestrial plants in Maine. He is approved by the Maine Forest Service (MFS) as a natural resources professional who can develop Invasive Plant Control Practice Plans (IPCPPs) and has developed over 30 such plans through the MFS and Maine Natural Areas Programs. Additionally, Joe has been an instructor in the two Invasive Plant Academies that MFS has conducted to train natural resource professionals to develop IPCPPs. And probably most importantly he is a woodland owner that has been actively controlling invasive plants on his property through his own efforts and that of hired contractors.
Jason Hilton – District Forester, Maine Forest Service
Jason will be bringing supplemental materials for participants including flyers on invasive plants.
Discover the impact of invasive species on local ecosystems, effective management strategies, and best practices for controlling their spread.
The Maine Invasive Plants Field Guide will be available for purchase at the workshop and at our district office for $24.95.
Don't miss this opportunity to deepen your knowledge and help protect Maine’s natural landscapes!
Thank you to Maine Woodland Owners for their support and sponsorship of this workshop.
